Project “Empower Ukraine. Disability rights”

One of the priority areas of work of the public organization “The League of the Strong” is the humanitarian response to the challenges of war and the resolution of humanitarian problems faced by the most vulnerable segments of the population. The organization aims to ensure barrier-free access to humanitarian aid and provide quality, inclusive services.

Received support from the European Disabilities Forum and the Christian Blind Mission, “The League of the Strong” is implementing a project aimed at improving the living conditions of people with disabilities, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable populations affected by the war.

Implementation of the international project “Multisectoral humanitarian aid for IDPs, repatriates, veterans, and their host communities in Ukraine” in partnership with EDF and CBM is an opportunity to provide humanitarian assistance to people with disabilities and ensure access to various inclusive services.

Within the project, assistance will be provided to: persons with disabilities, vulnerable groups od IDPs, individuals with disabilities who have returned to Ukraine from abroad, veterans and individuals affected by war, elderly people, single-headed households, adults and children in state institutions. The public association “The League of the Strong” is responsible for implementing the project in three regions: Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Cherkasy regions.

Our cooperation is focused on three main directions:

  1. Providing financial assistance to the mentioned vulnerable categories.
  2. Promoting improved access to inclusive services to ensure the enhancement of physical and mental health.
  3. Promoting accessibility, inclusivity, and barrier-free environments by improving opportunities and potential within communities. This includes involving people with disabilities in decision-making, addressing their needs, learning from best practices, and advocating for inclusive reconstruction.

As part of the project implementation, the following types of assistance are provided for community residents and activities/learning for specialists:

  • Providing focused assistance by offering cash payments and vouchers.
  • Provision of assistive technologies.
  • Services of transportation to medical institutions.
  • Training for medical personnel and representatives of target groups on improving access to health services in accordance with WHO standards for mental health.
  • increasing the level of awareness of the available inclusive services for mental health and psychosocial support with the expansion of the spectrum of skills and abilities among medical and social workers.
