“The League of the Strong” has launched a new project as part of the Rebuild Ukraine.Inclusive program. The key goal of the project is to familiarize representatives from affected communities with barrier-free standards and provide them with practical tools for monitoring facilities for accessibility. These are communities in Kyiv and Dnipro regions, Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia regions, which have already begun the recovery process.
“Very often, unfortunately, even when officials have a desire to restore the affected facilities with accessibility requirements in mind, a simple problem arises in practice. There is no understanding of what the basic requirements for barrier-free accessibility are. We started this project because the reconstruction process is already underway. And the more community representatives understand how to make reconstruction inclusive, the better it will be,” explains Daria Sydorenko, executive director of “The League of the Strong”.
The project began with a two-day training for local government representatives on “Implementing the principles of barrier-free and inclusive accessibility in affected communities.” Community representatives will be able to try to put the knowledge they have gained into practice at the next stage of the project – meetings with accessibility experts. Thus, on November 24-25, meetings will be held with representatives of the Dniprorudnenska, Vilnianska, and Nikopolska communities. On November 29, a meeting will be held with the Novhorod-Siverska community. The next day, November 30, a meeting will be organized with the Dymer community.
The project is being implemented as part of the international program “INKuLtur – for Inclusion and Participation in Cultural Life”. It is being implemented by Dialogue for Understanding e.V. together with the Eastern Partnership countries with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office.
This is not the first experience of cooperation between “The League of the Strong” and the program “INKuLtur – for inclusion and participation in cultural life”. In June, we held the conference “Uniting for Inclusive Reconstruction of Ukraine”.
The project is implemented with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office. The content is the sole responsibility of the NGO League of the Strong and does not necessarily reflect the views of the German Foreign Office.
