Social workers are invited to participate in a webinar on inclusive language

The “League of the Strong” public union invites social workers from Cherkasy, Ternopil, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions to participate in the webinar “Words Matter: The Importance of Inclusive Language.” The webinar will be conducted by Olesia Yaskevych, founder and head of the public organization “Seeing with the Heart,” a member of the board of the “League of the Strong,” and a consultant on inclusive communication with people with disabilities, as announced by David Davtian, project manager of the “League of the Strong.”

“We have long emphasized the importance of inclusive language, as it is the first step toward acceptance and respect for the dignity of every person. Unfortunately, we still often encounter incorrect use of terms that can discriminate against people with disabilities. This training aims to remind us once again that words matter. How we refer to people affects our attitude toward them,” says David Davtian, project manager of the “League of the Strong.”

The event will take place on September 10 via Google Meet.

During the training, participants will gain a clear understanding of the differences between segregation, integration, and inclusion, and will learn to use appropriate terminology when referring to people with disabilities. They will also develop the skills to recognize and debunk common myths about disability.

Participation in the training is free of charge. To join, please complete the registration form at the provided link.

The event is part of the Empower Ukraine project, made possible with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), CBM, and the European Disability Forum.
