More than 20,000 people with disabilities affected by the full-scale invasion of Ukraine have received assistance. This became possible thanks to the support of European partners – the European Disabilities Forum (EDF). This was announced by Daria Sydorenko, Executive Director of the League of the Strong NGO.
“For a year now, together with other NGOs, we have been implementing a project to support people with disabilities. During this time, more than 20 thousand Ukrainians have received help. The largest number of requests – 13,674 – concerned consulting and information assistance. The second place was taken by requests for humanitarian aid – 3,980. Social support (education for children, rehabilitation and temporary housing) ranks third in terms of the number of requests – 2769,” said Daria Sydorenko, Executive Director of the League of the Strong NGO.
The European Disabilities Forum (EDF) project was launched in Ukraine in June 2022. As part of the project, 11 NGOs provide various types of assistance to people with disabilities affected by the full-scale invasion. Negotiations are currently underway to continue the project’s work in Ukraine.
“The League of the Strong is a public union that was formed at the end of 2021. Its main task is to unite NGOs and activate people with disabilities to participate in the exercise of their rights. Since the full-scale invasion, one of the focuses of the organisation’s work has been to help people with disabilities. Currently, the League of the Strong community includes 53 organisations.
