An international project to help people with disabilities has continued its work in Ukraine. The relevant cooperation document was signed between the European Disabilities Forum (EDF) and the League of the Strong public union. This was announced by the organization’s executive director Daria Sydorenko.
“By the end of 2024, we will be providing assistance to people with disabilities. In fact, this is the second phase of the joint project with European partners, which ended this summer. In addition to direct assistance, which will continue to be provided through our 11 partner organizations, we will also focus on another important area. The project involves 75 governmental and non-governmental organizations in advocacy campaigns,” said Daria Sydorenko.
The project will also include a training program, the development of analytical documents, and the adaptation of legislation to protect the rights of people with disabilities in Ukraine to EU standards.
The first phase of an international aid project for Ukrainians with disabilities was implemented last year, after the full-scale invasion. More than 23 thousand Ukrainians with disabilities received assistance over the previous period. In Ukraine, the project is being implemented by “The League of the Strong” in partnership with 11 partner organizations with financial support from the European Disabilities Forum (EDF).
“The League of the Strong” is a public union that was founded at the end of 2021. The main task is to unite public organizations and activate people with disabilities to participate in the realization of their rights. Since the full-scale invasion, one of the focuses of the organization’s work has been to help people with disabilities. Currently, “The League of the Strong” community includes 70 NGOs.
