In every challenge, one should look for points for growth-the war has helped many Ukrainians realize the importance of accessibility, and it is time to actively create changes to remove barriers. This was stated by Daria Sydorenko, Executive Director of “The League of the Strong” NGO, to Detector Media. The publication interviewed public opinion leaders about the changes in society that have taken place over the 2 years of war and 10 years of the annexation of Crimea.
“No one can predict the future for sure, but everyone can work hard to make it better. It is important to take care of your own resilience – only with it will you be able to work productively for social change when the morning passes in a shelter or you hear the hum of drones nearby,” -said Daria Sydorenko, executive director of “The League of the Strong” NGO.
She also voiced the results of the monitoring of the rights of people with disabilities in the occupied Crimea, which was conducted by the “The League of the Strong”. In particular, the principle of “nothing about us without us” does not work on the peninsula: all critical statements carry the risk of punishment. Rehabilitation services have become less accessible, and their quality has deteriorated.
“We assume that these trends are also relevant to other occupied territories to varying degrees. All of this will complicate further reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories,”- added Daria Sydorenko, executive director of The League of the Strong NGO.
