The League of the Strong NGO invites representatives of local governments and civic activists to a practical webinar “Barrier-Free Community in 90 Minutes”. The event will take place on December 21 online on the Zoom platform and will be broadcast on the organization’s Facebook page.
During the webinar, experts will share their experience and practical advice on implementing barrier-free principles in the Community Development Strategy. This will lay the groundwork for further systematic work on accessibility issues at the local level.
“Very often, local governments try to improve accessibility with certain measures, such as installing ramps or tactile tiles. However, true barrier-free accessibility requires a comprehensive approach at all levels. After all, accessibility is not just about the physical environment. It also means access to information, transport, services, and much more. That is why barrier-free accessibility should become an integral part of community development strategies. Our webinar will focus on how to implement the principles of universal design in all areas of community life,” explains Daria Sydorenko, executive director of “The League of the Strong”.
Among the speakers of the event:
- Volodymyr Vysotskyi, expert consultant on accessibility of the built environment
- Olga Hvozdik, advocacy manager at the “The League of the Strong”
- Alyona Poberezhnyk, lawyer at the “League of the Strong”
The training will be held as part of the Empower Ukraine project. It aims to improve living conditions for people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in Ternopil, Cherkasy, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. The project provides training for medical professionals, advocacy, and direct provision of humanitarian aid. In total, more than 9 thousand people will benefit from the project.
The event will be held with the financial support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany (GFFO), CBM and the European Disability Forum. The views expressed in this document are those of the “The League of the Strong” and therefore can in no way be taken to reflect the official opinion of the funding partner and the European Disability Forum.
