More than 5,000 Ukrainians with disabilities received assistance in the second half of 2023 as part of the international project in collaboration with European Disabilities Forum (EDF). The project is being implemented in Ukraine by the public union “The League of the Strong” in partnership with 11 organizations. This was announced by Daria Sydorenko, executive director of the League of the Strong public union.

“We continue to support people with disabilities. It is important that they receive the help they need. Especially during a full-scale war. This project has been running since June 2022. It provides both counseling services and humanitarian aid,” said Daria Sydorenko, executive director of “The League of the Strong” NGO.

From July to December 2023, the largest number of requests – 2473 – were received for counseling services, including legal assistance. Humanitarian assistance in the form of day care, support and training programs was provided to 1827 Ukrainians. Food and hygiene kits and components for cochlear implants were provided to 808 people with disabilities.

The project in collaboration with European Disabilities Forum (EDF) was launched in Ukraine in 2022. As part of the project, 11 NGOs provide various types of assistance to people with disabilities affected by the full-scale invasion. In the first year of the project, more than 23 thousand people with disabilities received assistance.

The League of the Strong is a public union that was formed at the end of 2021. The main task is to unite public organizations and activate people with disabilities to participate in the realization of their rights. Since the full-scale invasion, one of the focuses of the organization’s work has been to help people with disabilities. Currently, the League of the Strong community includes 98 organizations.
