On Thursday, May 16, a roundtable discussion “International experience in implementing independent living. Lessons and conclusions for Ukraine”. In an online format, the League of the Strong will bring together international experts to discuss the European experience of implementing deinstitutionalization. This was reported by Daria Sydorenko, Executive Director of the NGO “The League of the Strong”.
“One of the requirements of the European Union for Ukraine on its way to European integration is deinstitutionalization of care for people with disabilities. Our country has made this commitment. To understand how best to go this way, it is important for us to know and hear about the experience of those who have already succeeded,” said Daria Sydorenko, executive director of “The League of the Strong” NGO.
The program of the meeting includes the following panel discussions:
- Experience of organizing assisted living in Switzerland.
- Experience of organizing assisted living in Poland.
- European standards and approaches to the organization of assisted living.
Invited speakers:
- Matthias Sagi-Kis, Board Member of Pro Infirmis Switzerland and President of the Disability Policy Committee, Vice President of the Zurich District Council;
- Haydn Gammersley, Social Policy Coordinator, European Disability Forum;
- Anna Drabarz, project coordinator at the Polish Forum of People with Disabilities
- Remo Bettig, Head of Department at a social institution for people with mental disorders and challenging behavior.
The event will be moderated by Maria Yasenovska, President of the Kharkiv Regional Foundation “Civic Alternative”. The meeting will be held online on the Zoom platform.
