Over the past 6 months, 3,480 transportations have been organized for people with disabilities to medical facilities in Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Ternopil regions. This work is carried out within the framework of the international project “Empower Ukraine. Disability rights”. This was announced by Daria Sydorenko, executive director of “The League of the Strong”public union.
“The inaccessibility and unsuitability of most public transportation for people with disabilities creates difficulties with movement. And this is a really big problem when it comes to health issues, especially in rural areas. We help with transportation so that people with disabilities can receive the medical services they need,” said Daria Sydorenko, executive director of “The League of the Strong” NGO.
People with disabilities undergoing hemodialysis, as well as those who need rehabilitation, routine examination or treatment, received assistance in transportation. Transportation was organized both in groups and individually. In particular, people were transported from communities to regional hospitals. Transportation by passenger car to medical facilities within the cities was also carried out.
The transportation of people with disabilities is part of the Empower Ukraine project, which was created with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), CBM, and the European Forum for Persons with Disabilities.
