The League of the Strong NGO conducted a training for local managers on accessibility in Lviv Oblast. Participants learned how to check buildings for accessibility for people with disabilities, including people with prostheses or in wheelchairs. Daria Sydorenko, executive director of the League of the Strong public union, told Channel 5
“This year we continue to work with local governments, in particular, we are conducting a practical training. It is very important for us to emphasize practicality. At this training, representatives of various departments and local governments already understand and know how to monitor accessibility. This is the first step towards ensuring accessibility on the ground,” said Daria Sydorenko, executive director of the League of the Strong NGO.
The training consisted of theoretical and practical parts. More than two dozen people joined to gain knowledge and skills that will help them not only better understand what accessibility is, but also to implement real changes on the ground in the future. The event ended with monitoring of the area around the Pustomyty People’s House.
The League of the Strong has already held similar events in Ternopil, Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Ivano-Frankivsk. Those who were unable to join the training can monitor community facilities for accessibility on their own using a special online guide on the website of the Center of Expertise in the field of the rights of people with disabilities.
