Over the past 8 months, more than 6,600 Ukrainians with disabilities have received assistance under the international project “Uniting and Helping in Time of War” with the support of the European Disabilities Forum (EDF). The project is being implemented by the League of the Strong public union in partnership with 11 organizations. This was reported by Daria Sydorenko, Executive Director of the League of the Strong NGO.
“It is especially important to know that you will be heard and helped during a full-scale war. For almost 2 years, the League of the Strong, together with partner organizations, has been implementing a project to support people with disabilities. During this time, almost 30 thousand Ukrainians have received assistance,” said Daria Sydorenko, executive director of the League of the Strong public union.
In July 2023, the second phase of the project “Unite and Help in Time of War” began. So far, 6690 people have received services and humanitarian aid under this project. Most of the requests were for information and counseling services, including legal assistance – 3167. Day care, support and training programs were used by 2488 people. Food and hygiene kits, as well as components for cochlear implants, were provided to 1035 people with disabilities.
We remind you that the international project “Unite and Help in Time of War” with the support of the European partner European Disabilities Forum was launched in Ukraine in 2022. The project is being implemented by the League of the Strong NGO in partnership with 11 organizations. As part of the project, they provide various types of assistance to people with disabilities affected by the full-scale invasion. Over 23 thousand people with disabilities received assistance in the first year of operation.
“The League of the Strong is a public union that was formed at the end of 2021. The main task is to unite public organizations and activate people with disabilities to participate in the realization of their rights. Since the full-scale invasion, one of the focuses of the organization’s work has been to help people with disabilities. Currently, the League of the Strong community includes 98 organizations.
