20 Ukrainian municipalities will receive assistance and expert advice on the implementation of accessible solutions under the project “Center of Expertise on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”. This was announced by Daria Sydorenko, executive director of the public union League of the Strong.
“Ensuring a barrier-free environment is one of the key areas of Ukraine’s recovery. It is especially important that, in the face of the challenges of war, each community has access to the knowledge and resources necessary to create an accessible environment for all its residents. The opportunity for communities to receive advice from the Center of Expertise on the Rights of People with Disabilities is another step towards ensuring that everyone, regardless of their health status, can feel like a full member of their community and enjoy all their rights and opportunities,” emphasizes Daria Sydorenko, Executive Director of the League of the Strong.
Each municipality will receive assistance and expert advice in the following areas:
- Analysis of projects for new construction and/or reconstruction of social infrastructure buildings, pedestrian and recreational areas (preliminary and working designs prior to expert review).
- Implementation of accessibility elements within major repairs
- Ensuring the inclusion of public services;
- Selection of equipment to improve the accessibility of buildings and premises;
- Expert support for the development of accessibility policy documents and/or amendments to existing documents;
- Supporting the process of establishing a local accessibility council;
- Assistance in the development of local standards for accessible communities;
- Providing clarification on how to comply with the requirements of state building codes and inclusion standards.
